A fairytale told as old as time.
Beauty and the Beast was originally written in 1740 by French novelist Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villanueve and published by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont as a fairytale collection of a children’s magazine called Magasin des enfants in 1756. The story has since then published into several versions with influence from other stories and varations like Cupid & Psyche, The Golden Ass, The Pig King and the opera version Zamire and Azor as well as others that followed through on other languages. Although according to scholars and researchers the story may have originated some 4000 years ago.

The story of Beauty and the Beast was first conceived to be adapted into film as early as the 1930s and the 1950s but were unsuccessful. It was only after the breaking hit of The Little Mermaid in 1989 that Disney finally agreed to release it into film.

Beauty & the Beast, 1991
Before the theatrical release, Walt Disney was able to finally release the Beauty & the Beast animated film which gained entry as an unfinished film entry (70%) in the New York Film Festival on that year. It finally was released in theaters in November 1991 and earned a box office citation of $425 million worth out of its production cost at a budget of $25 million. The film was also made significant citation as having been selected for preservation by the US Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".

Beauty & the Beast, the TV series.
In 1987, the Beauty & the Beast TV series has been released and aired on CBS that stars Linda Hamilton and Ron Perlman based on the characters of the story created for television under the production of Ron Koslow for Republic Pictures and CBS Television.


Beauty & the Beast on Broadway.
Despite the demise of Walt Disney in 1966 that has the support of the musical version of Beauty & the Beast, the original Broadway version kick started and took the stage on April 1994 and has already been watched on stage in different parts of the world. It already grossed more than $1.4 billion on its worldwide acts in thirteen countries and 115 cities around the world.

Beauty & the Beast, 2017
The 2017 version of Beauty & the Beast stars Emma Watson as Belle and Dan Stevens as the Beast/Prince. The2017 version was based on the adaptation of Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont's fairy tale story.
